Fee, tax and split, in plain terms.
A placement fee is a percentage of the candidate's annual CTC, agreed with the client before you start. On a tax invoice in India, GST is added on top of the fee. On a team, the recruiter who delivered the placement earns a share of the fee, set by the desk's payout rules.
- Fee = annual CTC multiplied by the agreed rate
- GST is added on the fee, not on the CTC
- The recruiter's share is a percentage of the fee
RecruiterDesk works all of this out for you on a real placement: the fee is derived from each client's commercial terms, and on a team the client receivable and the recruiter payout are drafted automatically. See how the product works or the pricing.
Recruitment fees, answered.
How is a recruitment placement fee calculated?
A placement fee is usually a percentage of the candidate's annual CTC. Multiply the annual CTC by the agreed fee rate to get the fee. For example, a fee of 8.33 percent (one month's salary) on an annual CTC of 12,00,000 is 99,960. In India, GST is then added on top of the fee on the tax invoice.
What is a typical recruitment agency fee?
Fees vary by market, seniority and how niche the role is. A common range is anywhere from 8.33 percent (one month of salary) to 15 percent or more of annual CTC, with harder or more senior roles at the higher end. There is no single correct number, so agree the rate in writing with each client before you start work.
Is GST charged on recruitment fees in India?
Yes. Recruitment and staffing services are taxable in India, and GST is added on top of the placement fee on the tax invoice. This calculator can add GST at 18 percent so you can see the fee, the tax and the total a client is invoiced. Confirm your specific treatment with a chartered accountant.
How much does a recruiter earn from a placement?
On a team, the recruiter who delivered a placement is usually paid a share of the fee, set by the desk's payout rules as a percentage or a flat amount. Enter a split percentage in the calculator to see the recruiter's share of the fee before tax.
